Oppisition side of the essay
At the present time, our children are taught theories, and ideas of environmental radicals that the Earth is getting warmer and there is a hole in the ozone layer. The fact of these two topics is that they are just theory that cannot be confirmed as truth by any one group of scientists. And that theory is being taught to our children as fact. To make matters worse they are being told by their teachers that they should sign petitions in favor of action to support these claims, become politically active in wild political parties, and even write pleading letters to the President of The United States with topics these kids know nothing about. Teachers have almost more convincing power on children than their parents have on them, and if teachers, and professors continue to purposely force half truths and lies on impressionable youth, the children will continue to blindly follow causing a whole world of miscommunication and people fighting for causes that have no basis or truth, making the world a very scary and uncertain place.
Children should be taught that not everything we do as human beings in this world has a negative impact on the economy, and not everything done in favor of the economy has a positive impact. Children need to be taught that there can be moderation in all things, including recycling. Although recycling may be a good idea, it may also increase the use of energy, and valuable recourses, like oil, tax payer dollars, and our time. If there is scientific uncertainty on the subject of global climate changes, it is wrong to scare our children by telling them their parents are destroying the earth. At the present time environmental groups use blatant scare tactics on our children to make them think that the world is in trouble. Environmental groups enjoy scaring children into thinking that man has caused a hole in the ozone layer, and directly causing ice caps to melt, and animals to die. This is not only wrong information it is cruel to the whole human race. We are taught as human beings by some teachers and most environmental organizations to hate ourselves, and everything we do. The reality of this world is we are the biggest and most important part of the eco system. And as the whole “Eco Friendly” trend continues to evolve, a real form of evolution will eventually take over, and life as we know it will be over.
Environmental regulations can often have major impacts upon local and national economies. Many of today’s youth are misinformed and even restricted from participating in many types of activities due to environmental ideas taught in school. Even Children’s television networks like Nickelodeon have a huge impact on children feeding them with the ideas of Activists, and Politicians. Captain Planet and the Planeteers also tell children, "When it's your turn to have a family, keep it small. The more people there are the more pressure you put on our planet." They are taught that as population continues to increase, so will the human impact on the natural environment. They have been told, the more people on the planet means that more people are engaged in activities that destroy the world around them. Children learn the earth faces dire ecological consequences, from lack of recourses to famine and extinction.
Environmental education can be a valuable addition to school subjects, but only if it is done in a careful, thoughtful, and helpful way. Schools should be for education, not for brain washing our today’s youth. If educators approach environmental issues in a balanced way, then our children might be better informed with facts and truths. The result of children being taught the truth in their class rooms could be catastrophic. They will be better educated, happier, and ready to make real changes for the better when they grow up.
